The MacBook family of Apple Computers consists of the MacBook, MacBook Pro, and the MacBook Air. They are designed to deliver high-performance computing on the go, combining power and mobility to give their owners a full-featured computer away from the desk. They operate wherever you go, and handle whatever you do. MacBook, the consumer-focused notebook among the three, was designed and manufactured for the education markets. It sports entry-level specs and an affordable price range. In July of 2011, the MacBook was discontinued in favor of the MacBook Air. With its all-flash storage and lightweight durable design, the MacBook Air is Apple’s entrant to the ultraportable division of laptop computers. It is available in 11.6-inch and 13.3-inch models and weighs as little as 3lbs. But the MacBook Air boasts of the same high level of performance as those in laptops twice its size. MacBook Pro, on the other hand, is at the high-end of MacBook computers. It has high-performance processors, powerful graphics, and extended battery life. It is also equipped with high-quality screen and sturdy unibody construction, making it a favorite among professionals needing a powerful computer wherever they go. |

Reviewed by Brian Miller (2011-12-24) MacBook Air is superlight and superfastI have always admired the design of Apple products. They look nice and well thought out. The MacBook Air is at the forefront of this brilliance in design, as it is for me the best-looking of all Apple computers. It is light and it is powerful. It is amazing how pretty a high-tech product can be.
The 13-inch MacBook Air that I got has a roomy track pad. That makes it very comfortable to use and, more importantly, provides ample palm rest. It helps that the edge of the MacBook Air is not boxy, as it makes typing on the Air not hard on the palm. I noticed that on a MacBook Pro, the edges where the palms touch the laptop sometimes hurt.
Also appreciate the return of the backlit keyboards on the 2011 version. It still eludes me why Apple took it out of the previous model. I would have bought one back then. But because there was no backlighting on the keyboards, I delayed. Good thing I could still endure my three-year-old MacBook.
Lastly, I must say that I’m impressed with the flash storage. It’s superfast and dependable. A bit expensive, though, but hey, you get what you pay for. In the case of the MacBook Air, you get a laptop that just works! |

Reviewed by David Hackling (2012-01-02) MacBook Pro is just what daughter wantedThis was an after Xmas gift my daughter was saving up to buy and I decided to purchase it for her. When I gave her the box under my desk her eyes were glowing once she saw what it was because I did buy a better one than she was thinking of buying herself.
Although I haven't used it myself, she raves about it and hasn't been on any of the other computers in the house since. I am a windows person myself but now both daughters and my wife have macs and they all swear by them.
Speed, clarity of the screen and they say you have very little chance of being infected even without virus protection, I may think of switching myself when it comes time to replacing one of the computers. Expensive, but you get a very quality product. |

Reviewed by Harvey Williams (2012-01-12) MacBook Air: A Computer Worth Every PennyThis is by far the prettiest notebook I have ever used. It is light and thin. It is solid and ergonomically sound. I love the design as much as the Mac OS and the hardware. Its 13 inches of screen real estate is amazing. If you ask me, every inch of the MacBook Air is worth every penny that you will use to buy it.
It’s been a month since MacMall shipped my MacBook Air and I must tell you that I haven’t had the inclination to use the home desktop I’ve had for three years. Call the MacBook Air my new favorite, but I don’t see it changing anytime soon. There’s just too much convenience having this kind of computing power in a very portable and accessible form factor.
If I could change one thing about the Air, I would add a couple of USB ports. Seeing that there’s no disc drive, it would have been better if the Air has a couple more ports for thumb drives. You could get a USB hub, I guess, but that wouldn’t be nice and practical to carry around.
The Mac OS is a whole new environment for me and I love it. Everything seems to work the way I wanted a computer to work. The full screen mode is very nice. The dashboard makes organizing really easy. |
